September Book Club Choice
Frugal Fiction
Get ready for the first book swap event which will be held on Monday 12th October in the wonderful Lohan’s Bar, Salthill, Galway. We’re asking everyone to bring up to three books which they have read or finished with and which they’re happy to share with other eager readers in Galway. The night will begin at 8pm, guests will be asked to drop their books onto the book drop desk . Everyone can then get a chance to peruse the variety of books brought and take any book they wish.
There will be a raffle with some fantastic prizes held on the night in aid of local Galway charities. Any unread books will be donated to the Westside Library.
The Book Swap is a chance to meet up with other book loving readers while refreshing your own reading list with some swapped gems.
The cost of the night is a recession friendly ZERO Euro. All we ask is that you turn up with up to 3 books which you’re happy to swap on the night.

Book of the Month for August
This month’s book of the month and more….
The Secret Scripture

I am totally enthralled by Sebastian Barry’s ‘The Secret Scripture’ , this month’s Dine to Read book of the month. I found it a bit hard to get into but I’m hooked now! The language that Barry uses throughout the book is so descriptive and evocative, it causes me pause mid-page to enjoy the writing. The story is timed beautifully with extra pieces of information being discovered with each turn of the page. This book is a real readers’ delight.
We’ve scheduled in the Galway book club supper for Wednesday 5th August at 7.30pm in the wonderful Vina Mara Restaurant. Please make sure to book up if you wish to attend this book club meeting.

This month’s book is Plainsong by Kent Haruf. This is a beautifully written book and a great one for a summer read. It really does take you into a world of it’s own. A perfect novel!

Barack Obama is obviously an avid Dine to Read follower seeing as how he is currently reading last month’s book choice Joseph O’Neill’s ‘Netherland’. I hope he’s enjoying this Corkonian cracker as much as the readers of this site did. Thanks to everyone who took part in last month’s book club suppers.
This month’s book of the month is ‘Middlesex’ by Jeffrey Eugenides.

So this has nothing to do with books but has everything to do with just being truely inspirational!

Tuesday Pushed and I missed it
Another lovely write up for our site on Cathal Garvey’s site check it out here . Sorry for missing it first time round Cathal.
Here’s a really nice quote from Cathal’s piece:
“Couldn’t any book club have a website? Of course, but then there’s talking about it, there’s doing it, and there’s doing it well. DineToRead fall in to the latter category.”
Thanks!
