Books for 3-5 year olds

  1. I am looking for some good reads for 3-5 year olds. I love all the gruffalo style books. Room on the broom is enjoyed more by myself than any of the kids. Also love the pidgeon books by Mo Williams. Hilarious! Would appreciate any titles or authors along those lines.

  2. Hi Catch

Where do I start?? In our house The Jolly Postman - Janet Ahlberg is loved. Also Mr Men stories, Little Princess or any of the Oliver Jeffers - 'How to catch a Star' is a real feel good for Mums & Dads. I take my two to the library, that way we can try out books without the cost - nice illustrated childrens books cost a fortune!

  4. Try - Moxie the Underdog by Annie West.
Great illustrations, and the author's from Sligo.
Apparently the character of Moxie was inspired by Peter Stringer!

  5. My stepson's fav books when he was little were "Guess how much I love you" & "Whatever next?" Both I bought in the really large format. MY daughters love them too. They are suitable for smallies & stay with them as they get older.

  6. I'm a HUGE fan of the Julia Donaldson books, 'The Gruffalo' is favourite.
The Usbourne books with the hidden little duck in each pic are lovely for tots and 'Going on a bear hunt' is really popular with it's repetition but gets so tedious, especially when you eventually reach the end and hear.. again!...
Other favourites, though I'm not sure of the authors are, Owl babies, I want my potty, and, The best mistake ever.

My new favourite though is 'ish' by Peter H. Reynolds, I bought it yesterday and I love it...

  7. Had to bump up this thread. Tried 'My Naughty Little Sister' stories with my 4 year old daughter just this week. Wasn't sure if she was a bit young - her attention span is short- but she loves them! Hurrah! It is so nostalgic as they were a firm favourite of mine when I was little. They are so of their time (written in the 1950's I think)with children drinking cocoa and eating trifle at parties but the things she gets up to (cutting her own hair, getting wet in puddles etc) are so timeless.

Anyone else try out own favourites on their kids with good -or bad -results?
